Nationals are no-hit for the first time by Phillies’ Michael Lorenzen

Sports
Before Wednesday night, before Michael Lorenzen took the mound at Citizens Bank Park and turned toward history, the Washington Nationals had gone 18 seasons, four months and eight days without being no-hit. They had switched stadiums, won a World Series and watched a journeyman become a cult hero with a children’s song about a family of sharks but had never been on the wrong end of a pitcher’s special night, never had to slouch at their lockers and talk about when they noticed the zero in their hit column. They had never been those guys. But then it was Lorenzen, a right-hander for the Philadelphia Phillies, who finally did it, stacking one out on another as if he could not be bothered by history. The previous time the franchise now known as the Nationals was no-hit was 1999, when the ...

WhatsApp takes on Google Meet and Zoom with screen sharing support

Technology
WhatsApp added video calling to its platform over six years ago. Since then, the service has improved the feature by letting you add more people to a group video call. Now, taking a cue from the likes of Zoom, Google Meet, and Telegram, WhatsApp is adding screen sharing feature to its platform. As the name indicates, you can share your phone or desktop's screen via screen sharing when on a video call. This addition makes one of the best messaging apps for Android even better. Screen sharing in WhatsApp was first spotted in development in late May this year. So, Meta has been relatively quick in making the feature public. If you use WhatsApp to hold online classes, you can use screen sharing to show your notes or slides. It can also be helpful when you provide tech support to your frien...

Rays ace Shane McClanahan will likely miss rest of season with forearm injury

Sports
Tampa Bay Rays ace Shane McClanahan is likely out for the season with tightness in his left forearm. Rays manager Kevin Cash told the Tampa Bay Times’ Marc Hopkin that its “highly unlikely” McClanahan returns in 2023. Cash added that Tommy John surgery, flexor tendon surgery and removal of loose bodies “are on the table” for the southpaw. The 26-year-old left-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list last week after leaving his Aug. 2 start against the Yankees in the fourth inning. McClanahan reportedly met with surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday and is set to get a second opinion next week. “Surgery is certainly an option, but I don’t want to get too far ahead,” Cash said. “I think in fairness to Mac and to us, he’s going to be down for a little while. The two-tim...

Big Ten grabs Oregon, Washington; Big 12 completes Pac-12 raid with Arizona, Arizona State and Utah

Sports
Dealing a crushing combination to the Pac-12 on Friday, the Big Ten announced Oregon and Washington would be joining the conference next August, and the Big 12 completed its raid of the beleaguered league by adding Arizona, Arizona State and Utah. The day began with hope and nine members for the Pac-12. It ended with the Pac-12 — with roots that date back a century and more NCAA championships than any other — down to four schools and facing extinction because it was unable to land a media rights agreement to match its competitors. “Today’s news is incredibly disappointing for student-athletes, fans, alumni and staff of the Pac-12 who cherish the over 100-year history, tradition and rivalries of the Conference of Champions,” the conference said in a statement. “We remain focused on s...

Taylor Swift Brings Her Epic Empath Energy to SoFi Stadium for a Grand Six-Night Stand

Entertainment
One of the questions raised by Taylor Swift’s recent single “Karma” is whether the titular force is something that can be, like, aggressively courted. And, if so, is writing out $100,000 bonus checks to one’s tour truck drivers a form of metaphysical insurance payment? These are the deep thoughts that may woozily cross your mind on the Eras Tour, as the clock nears midnight while Swift is bringing things to a close by performing “Karma” at the end of a 3-hour-and-25-minute marathon set. It’s a weird, funny finale that leaves an audience with the idea that virtue is even better than revenge, or that maybe these can amount to the same thing. And who’s to argue any of this when you’re witnessing the insane success of the soon-to-be-billion-grossing Eras Tour? Swift is paying her good fort...
